Variantz Magazine

Working in Variantz, a Singapore smart home IoT company, is a great design practice. This task is creating a market strategy for the company from the designer’s perspective.

First, because of technological development and inclined living quality requirements, Singapore customers got individual products before knowing the IoT system. This made the usage potential decline, which led to considerable complaints. Also, the dealers and the service providers lack the knowledge to provide suitable solutions for customers.

In this case, after the interview and onsite research, the first Guide Magazine for Smart Home Devices in Singapore was produced by the design team in Variantz.

Research

Making a project from 0 to 1 needs tons of effort. The first step was to decide on the method. Since the company's market strategy wanted a link between the consumers, a magazine is a great solution considering the cost. Here came the first challenge: Variantz had an all-design-students-formed design team, so the team started researching how to design a suitable magazine for printing and digital views.

Ideation

With the basic knowledge the team learned through research, the ideation process is creatively based on UX prototyping experience. We designed three themes for the magazine: Milestone Moments, Habitat Ensemble, and Smart Intelligent Solutions. Based on the themes, there is a unique storytelling potential created.

Final Product

After all the processes, the team produced the solution. This magazine is the first Smart Home Solution magazine created in Singapore with a practical budget. It is published in traditional copies and electronic editions on Variantz’s website.
